The LYC Sailing Foundation would like to cordially invite you to a boat parade honoring our heroes on Thursday, June 25 from 5:00-6:30pm. There will be 8 optimist sailboats, manned by youth boaters from the LYC Sailing Foundation, towed upriver alongside Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale.

The route will begin at the east end of the New River and terminate at Esplanade Park. Each optimist sailboat will bear the name of an organization who has been a true hero during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several heroes from these organizations will join us on board Water Taxi during the parade.

Chairman of the LYC Sailing Foundation, Vilhelm Roberts said, “our community is grateful for the hard work of the nurses, first responders and elected officials during these past months. We wanted to find a way to honor them and get our young boaters back on the water doing what they love most.”

Phil Purcell, CEO/president of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, said, “On a personal level, I think the boat parade is an excellent way to honor local first responders and an opportunity for residents, businesses, and elected officials to celebrate youth sailing. As the lifeline of the City and the economic engine of the marine industry, the New River is the perfect location to acknowledge the importance of opening the economy.”

We’d like to extend an invitation to the Fort Lauderdale community to join us along the Riverwalk to cheer on our heroes and show their support.
